Achieving network implementation success starts with the establishment of a solid infrastructure.
• The cabling plant must be clean and well maintained
• The wireless spectrum needs to be clear of extraneous RF and Radio Frequency Interference
• Environmental conditions in the Data Center and Wiring closets need to be optimal
Without a solid base infrastructure deploying advanced networking access methods will be constantly plagued with problems.
Acceptance of the applications that run on a faulty infrastructure will encounter resistance, either because of the actual issues that have arisen or the perception that the network cannot be trusted.
So before embarking on any high profile network implementation tied to a costly application rollout always assess the infrastructure to ensure its ability to work with the data load that will be running on it.
Have the cabling assessed for its ability to run at the speed required for the application.
Do a wireless walkthrough and observe issues around elevators machine rooms and microwaves. Also, ensure that access points in close proximity outside your organization don’t interfere with your channel spread.
Check your ability to disperse heat and ensure that if your new equipment has higher requirements that you’re A/C units can handle them.
Also, ensure electrical is adequate. Many newer Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches require more Electrical and the new UPS may need a different plug configuration to support the increased load.
